Campaign Story

Currently, the children’s Home has 21 children, that is 12 girls and 9 boys. These are between the ages of 3 and 18 years. Two of the children are going to creche, nine are at primary level and 7 are going to secondary school. The other 3 are infants, two being 3 year old’s and one being 2 years old. These children are taken care of by three care givers who work as house parents to them. The care givers provide effective day to day counseling to the children besides catering to their upkeep.

The care givers sometimes go under specialized caregiver’s training by the Home. There is a need for more training for them. The home seeks financial resources in order to be able to engage other stakeholders in the training caregivers to enable them to work effectively with the children. Some of the roles and responsibilities of caregivers include the following:

1. Providing counseling to children when necessary to do so.
2. Spending as much quality time as possible with the children teaching and instructing them.
3. Monitoring and assisting children in childcare projects.
4. Conducting psychosocial support activities with the children.
5. Ensuring that all the needs of children are well met.

Home is still in its transition from the dormitory style of accommodation into family style of accommodation. This is a prerequisite by the law. It has residential care family units housing 10 and 11 children respectively.
